Lady Monarch Cagers Drop First Freedom Conference Game at FDU

KING'S WOMEN FALL TO FDU IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE MATCHUP

MADISON, NJ -- The King's College women's basketball team experienced its worst overall shooting performance of the season as the Lady Monarchs dropped a 81-59 decision to host FDU-Florham Saturday in Madison, NJ.

With the loss, King's slipped to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the Freedom Conference. FDU, meanwhile, improved to 4-1 and 2-0.

In the first half the Lady Monarchs made just 36.7 (11-30) percent from the field but were also 0-7 from three-point range. King's also hurt itself from the foul line, making just 56.5 (13-23) percentfrom the free throw line as FDU took a 43-35 lead into the half.

In the second half, the Devils out-scored King's 10-2 over the first 3:03 to build a 53-37 lead and were never threatened again.

For the game, King's shot just 32.7 (17-52) percent from the floor, and 64.1 (25-39) percent from the foul line while going 0-13 from three-point range.


Katlin Michaels led King's with 21 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Marissa Manning had 12 points and three rebounds while Celia Rader added 10 points and six rebounds but went 0-7 from three-point land after having made 24 three-pointers in the team's previous five games.

Ashley Davies netted seven points with five rebounds but no other Lady Monarch scored more than two points. The Lady Monarchs also committed a season-high 19 turnovers.

For FDU, Kyra Dayton had 26 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists while Leigh Ann Lively tallied 16 points. Rachel Groom and Jalessa Lewsis chipped in with six points each. The Devils out-rebounded King's 42-36 and made 25-of-29 foul shots.

King's returns to action Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. when the Lady Monarchs host Penn State Schuylkill in Scandlon Gymnasium.
