KING'S CAGERS FALL TO BALDWIN WALLACE, 74-57

WILKES-BARRE – Kevin Krakowiak scored a game-high 21 points and the visiting Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team built a 21-point lead midway through the second half as the Yellow Jackets posted a 74-57 victory over host King's Colege Saturday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

With the win, Baldwin Wallace, a member of the highly-regarded Ohio Athletic Conference, improved to 7-4 on the year while the Monarchs slipped to 5-6.

Baldwin Wallace never trailed in the game and held a 14-13 lead with 9:52 remaining in the first half. But the Yellow Jackets used a 12-2 run to push the score to 26-15 with 5:13 on the clock. After a King's bucket by Keyton Winder at the 4:24 mark, Baldwin Wallace outscored the Monarchs 4-0 the rest of the way to take a 30-17 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets slowly extended the lead and took a 41-23 advantage on a bucket by Aaron Selmek with 14:08 left in the contest. After Winder canned a three-pointer, Baldwin Wallace used a 14-7 surge to build its biggest lead of the game at 54-33 following a three-pointer by Grant Fairhurst with 10:49 to play.

King's would battle back and cut the score to 66-57 thanks to five straight points from Joe Caffrey, an inside bucket by Pat O'Donnell, and a three-pointer from Mike Foster with 2:25 remaining. The Yellow Jackets, however, put the game away at the foul line, making 8-of-8 foul shots the rest of the way to secure the victory.

Krakowiak was 6-of-17 from the field and three-of nine from three-point range while making all six shots from the foul line. Kyle Payne tallied 11 points while nine other players reached the scoring column for the Yellow Jackets.  Baldwin Wallace shot 47.3 (26-5) percent from the field and made nine three-pointers.

King's was paced by Caffrey with 12 points while Pat O'Donnell added 10. Winder contributed nine points and three assists while Ian Oakley chipped in with four points, six rebounds, and four assists. The Monarchs starting line-up combined for just 25 points on 11-of-33 shooting.  King's was also outrebounded 42-to-27 in the contest.

The Monarchs return to the court January 2-3 with the Cross County Challenge at Wilkes University.  On Wednesday, King's faces Scranton at 6:00 p.m. before playing Marywood at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
