KING'S MEN'S TENNIS FALLS TO ELIZABETHTOWN

WILKES-BARRE -- Elizabethtown College won four of the five closely contested matches as the visiting Blue Jays posted a 8-1 victory over host King's College in a Middle Atlantic Conference non-league men's tennis matchup Sunday at Kirby Park.

With the win, Elizabethtown improved to 4-4 on the year while the Monarchs slipped to 4-8.

The Blue Jays won all three doubles contests, including a 9-7 victory at first doubles and a 9-8 triumph at number-two doubles.

In singles, Elizabethtown clinched the match by capturing five of the six contests, including two of the three bouts to go three sets. Bobby Buttafogo was the lone winner for King's, posting a 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 victory.

In the feature match of the day, 2010 MAC singles champion Manrique Arrea of Elizabethtown defeated 2011 MAC champion Chris Cozzillio of King's in a rematch of the number-one singles final from October. Arrea gained a measure of revenge with a 6-3, 5-7, 10-5 triumph. King's Tony Bevevino was also a hard-luck loser, dropping a 2-6, 6-4, 11-9 decision to Eric Fritzges.
