KING'S BASEBALL DROPS OPENER OF THREE-GAME SET TO WILKES, TEAMS TO PLAY DOUBLEHEADER SATURDAY
WILKES-BARRE -- The host Wilkes University baseball team opened up a 6-3 lead with eight runs in the sixth inning en route to a 16-6 victory over visiting King's College Friday at Artillery Park in the first of a three-game weekend set.
With the loss King's fell to 9-17 overall and 3-10 in Freedom Conference play. Wilkes, meanwhile, improved to 11-18 and 3-10 in league competition.
The teams will conclude their season series Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at King's Betzler Athletic Complex.

Wilkes built a 6-0 lead through five innings until the Monarchs pushed across three in the top of the sixth inning. Chris Sweeney singled to right before Eric Bohem reached base on an error. After Richie Acierno walked to load the bases Tim Marchetti then stroked a three-run double to bring King's to within 6-3.
But in Wilkes' half of the inning the Colonels put the game away with eight runs, building a 14-3 lead.
The Monarchs added two runs in the seventh in a RBI triple by Sweeney and a run scoring double off the bat of Bohem. King's added its final run in the eighth inning when Brian Mikus singled and later scored on an error.
Bohem led King's by going 3-for-5 with a run and RBI while Sweeney went 2-for-5 with two runs and a RBI. Mikus was 2-for-4 with a run. The Monarchs, however, committed a whopping eight errors defensively, leading to six unearned runs.
King's starter Brenton Eades took the pitching loss, allowing six runs, three earned, in four innings while striking out four batters.
