King's Baseball Drops 13-6 Decision to Misericordia

Wilkes-Barre, Pa.-- The King's baseball team battled with Freedom Confernece leading Misericordia, but errors did in the Monarchs as they dropped a 13-6 decision Friday afternoon at Lipo Field.

Down 4-0 going to the bottom of the fouth inning Chris Sweeney jump started the King's (11-20) offense with a solo blast, his 10th of the year, over the left field fence. Eric Bohem followed with a single and later scored on a Tim Marchetti double to cut the lead to 4-2.

The Monarchs grabbed their first lead of the game in the fifth. James Baczkowski bunted for a single. After a pair of flyouts to center Sweeney double down the left field line to plate Baczkowski. Bohem and Rich Acierno added two out hits to put King's on top 5-4.

Misericordia (27-6) came right back with four runs in the top of the sixth keyed by a bases loaded triple by Jeff Slanovec. The Cougars added insurance with two runs in the eighth and three in the ninth.

Acierno lead the way for the Monarchs going 4-for-4 with three doubles and a pair of RBIs. Bohem finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI. Sween was 2-for-5 including a homer, two runs and drove in two.

Misericordia was paced by Kenny Durling who was 4-for-5 with two runs scored. Slovanec added three hits, four RBIs and two runs scored.

Anthony Sangirardi took the loss on the mound for King's going 7 2/3 innings. Evan Robacswski improved to 9-0 on the year going 6 2/3 allowing six runs all earned.

The two teams finish their three-game series on Saturday with the games slated to begin at 12:00 p.m. at Sowyerville.
