King's Baseball Drops 12-4 Descision to FDU
Wilkes-Barre, Pa.-- The King's College baseball team fell 12-4 to visiting Fairleigh Dickinson in the opener of a three-game Freedom Conference series Friday afternoon at Lipo Field.
Up 5-3 in after six innings the Devils (20-11, 13-6) used a three runs in the top of the seventh keyed by a Frank LaGuarina double to push the lead to 9-3. King's mustered a run in the botom of the inning, but left the bases loaded. The Devils tacked on four insurance runs in the top of the ninth to set the final.
FDU took advantage of a King's error in the top of the first. The Monarchs answered with a run in the bottom of the frame when
Eric Bohem drove home
Rob Lemoncelli with an infield singles. The teams traded runs in the second before the Devils posted a pair in the top of the third to stretch the lead to 4-2.
Bohme led the way for the Monarchs going 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. Lemoncelli and
Anthony Re were each 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
Fandel paced the FDU attack with four hits, driving home three runs and scoring three more. Nick Marcucci added a pair of hits and an RBI.
Anthony Sangirardi took the loss on the bump for King's pitching eight innings allowing 10 runs, six earned on 11 hits. F.J. Luchetti got the win for the Devils allowing three runs in six innings while striking out nine.
The Monarchs close out their season on Saturday when they travel to FDU for a doubleheader on Saturday. The game is slated to start at 1:00 p.m.
