KING'S BASEBALL TEAM SPLITS WITH FDU IN SEASON FINALS
MADISON, NJ -- The King's College baseball team concluded its 2012 campaign with a doubleheader split with host FDU-Florham Saturday in Madison, NJ. King's won the first game 6-2 before FDU won the nightcap 8-7.

In the opener, took a 1-0 lead in the third when Chris Sweeney tripled and scored on a base hot by Rich Acierno. The Monarchs added two runs in the fourth when Tim Zaccone drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a bunt by Anthony Re, and scored on a RBI single from James Baczkowski. Two batters later, Brian Mikus delivered a run-scoring single to give King's a 3-0 lead.

After FDU score one run in each of the next two innings to trim the lead to 3-2, King's put the game away with three runs in the seventh. The Monarchs capitalized on two FDU errors and used a two-run double by Acierno and a run-scoring single from Re to bring the final score to 6-2. Brenton Eades was the winning pitcher for King's, allowing just six hits while striking out four batters.

In the nightcap, FDU built a 6-0 lead through three innings before the Monarchs looked to rally. King's scored two runs in the fourth after Acierno doubled, Re drew a walk, and Rob Lemoncelli stroked a two-run single to cut the lead to 6-2.

King's pushed across five runs in the fifth on a two-run single from Lemoncelli, a solo home run from Sweeney, the Monarch junior's 11 round-tripper of the season, and a bases loaded walk to Re to tie the score at 7-7.

But the Devils pushed across what proved to be the winning run in the sixth on a run scoring double by Frank Tassielli.

Lemoncelli led King's by going 3-for-5 with four RBI. Mikus and Zaccone added two hits each. Pat Matthews took the loss for King's in relief, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts in one and two-third innings.
