King's Men's Tennis Clinches 2nd Seed in Freedom Tourney, Hand Eydler 399th Career Victory

KING'S MEN'S TENNIS CLINCHES SECOND SEED IN FREEDOM, EYDLER WINS 399TH MATCH

WILKES-BARRE -- King's College men's tennis coach Bill Eydler registered his 399th career victory and the Monarchs clinched the second seed in next week's Freedom Conference Team Tournament with a 7-2 victory over visiting Manhattanville College Saturday at Kirby Park.

With the win, King's improved to 12-9 overall and 4-1 in league competition. Manhattanville slipped to 3-8 and 3-2 in conference play. Eydler, in his 33rd year at King's, moves to within one victory of the coveted 400-win plateau and will have an opportunity to achieve the milestone Sunday in a 1:00 p.m. matchup at Alvernia University.

Against Manhattanville, King's took two of the three doubles bouts before clinching the match by adding five singles triumphs. Tim Caroll was the lone winner in doubles and singles for the Monarchs. Carroll teamed with Chris Cozzillio for a doubles triumph while Matt Grassi and Nick Conte posted the Monarchs' other doubles win.

In singles, Tony Bevevino, Jake Rohring, Bobby Buttafogo, and Andrew Panzitta joined Carroll as straight set victors.

Following its match with Alvernia on Sunday, the Monarchs will again host Manhattanville, this time in the Freedom Conference Tournament semi-finals at 3:30 p.m. at Kirby Park.
