King's Baseball Drops Freedom Conference Matchup to DeSales
Wilkes-Barre, Pa.-- The King's College baseball team was held to just four hits as they dropped a 15-2 decision to DeSales Thursday afternoon at Lipo Field.
The Bulldogs jumped on the Monarchs when Brian Mauro blasted a two-out three-run shot over the centerfield fence to give DeSales a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.
King's was able to force across a run without a hit in the bottom of the third.
Anthony Re led off the inning with a hit and moved to second on a
James Baczkowski groundout. A DeSales error put runners on the corners before
Brian Mikus plated Re with a sacrafice fly.
DeSales scored runs in the fourth and fifth to push the lead back to 5-1. The Monarchs answered with a run in the sixth, but would get no closer as the Bulldogs tacked on two runs in the seventh and four in both the eighth and ninth to set the final.
Rich Acierno was the only King's player to record multiple hits finishing the day 2-for-2 with a pair of walks.
Chris Sweeney and Re had a hit a piece for the Monarchs.
Kenny Ridge topped the scoresheet for DeSales going 5-for-6 with a home run and four runs scored. Nick Chiovitti, Ethan Moser, Mauro each had two hits.
Brenton Eades took the loss on the hill for the Monarchs as he went 6.2 innings allowing seven runs on 12 hits with four strikeouts. Colby Pacillo picked up the win in six innings of work allowing two unearned runs.
The Monarchs will finish the three-game series with DeSales on Monaday in a doubleheader in Center Valley at 1:00 p.m.
