KING'S FIELD HOCKEY OPENS SEASON WITH 5-0 WIN OVER KEYSTONE

WILKES-BARRE -- Calli Berryman and Abby McManus scored two goals apiece to power the host King's College field hockey team to a 5-0 victory over Keystone College Friday at McCarthy Stadium.

King's opened the scoring with 17:51 left in the first half when Berryman made good on an assist from freshman Alyssa
Monaghan. The Lady Monarchs then forged ahead 2-0 at the half when McManus struck net following a pass from Kim Howanitz.

King's wasted little time building a 3-0 lead when Howanitz
scored on a feed from Jackie Sikora just 4:18 into the second stanza. Berryman would score her second goal on an assist from Monaghan at the 21:37 mark. Monaghan then delivered her third assist of the game when McManus scored her second goal on a short crossing pass with 10:49 left in the contest.

Berryman and McManus scored two goals while Howantiz
finished with one goal and one assist. Monaghan was outstanding in her first collegiate game with three assists.

King's outshot Keystone 23-10 and also held a 10-4 advantage in penalty corners. Megan Withrow
made six saves for King's while Brittany Naylor added one for the Lady Monarchs. Keystone keeper Nichole Blank made eight saves while Amy Denmon added four.

King's will be idle until Friday when the Lady Monarchs face Kean University in the Misericordia
Invitational at 6:00 p.m. in Dallas.
