King's Women's Soccer Falls in Season Opener with Susquehanna

Wilkes-Barre, Pa.-- The King's College women's soccer team dropped it's season opener 2-0 to visiting Susquehanna University Saturday night at McCarthy Stadium.

The young Lady Monarch squad started nine freshmen and six more saw time against the Crusaders. The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half with the shots even at 5 at the break.

Alexandra Mason broke the tie for Susquehanna when Erica Meader chipped the ball over freshman keeper Jessica Natale right onto Mason's foot in front of the net at 60:49. Kate Wiley added an insurance tally at 66:31 from Marissa DeParto.

King's had several chances as Erin Laird hit a pair of posts in the second half as part of her team-high four shots. Brydie Gilespie was the only other Lady Monarch with multiple shots with three.

The Crusaders barely outshot King's 11-10 and Susquehanna held a 7-4 advantage in cornerkicks.

Lauren Duguid started the game in net making one save, but came out as Natale started the second half and allowed both goals while making one save.

The Lady Monarchs return to action on Wednesday when they trave to Penn State-Berks for a 4:00 p.m. start.
