KING'S FIELD HOCKEY DOWNS SUSQUEHANNA 2-1 ON LATE BERRYMAN GOAL

SELINSGROVE -- Calli Berryman scored the winning goal with just 3:20 remaining in the contest as the King's College field hockey team posted a thrilling 2-1 victory over host Susquehanna University Saturday in Selinsgrove.

With the win, King's improved to 4-2 while Susquehanna slipped to 2-4.

After a scoreless first half King's broke through with the first goal of the game off a penalty corner when Jackie Sikora struck net off a pass from Berryman at the 43:29 mark. Susquehanna knotted the game at 1-1 at 58:04 when Allison Abey scored on a feed by Nicole Solino.

With the game seeming headed for extra time, King's swarmed the Crusader net on a loose bal and Alyssa Monaghan stroked a short pass to Berryman who buried her shot into the back of the cage at 66:40 to tally what proved to be the game-winning goal.

Susquehanna held a slim 21-18 advantage in shots but the Lady Monarchs owned a 14-10 shot advantage in the second half. The Crusaders also owned a 9-8 lead in penalty corners but King's again would own a 6-4 second half advantage. King's goalie Megan Withrow made 12 saves in the game while Crusader keeper Alyssa Rothman had eight stops.

King's returns to the field Wednesday when the Lady Monarchs travel to face Elizabethtown College at 4:30 p.m.
