MONARCH SOCCER POSTS 3-1 WIN OVER PENN STATE BERKS
READING -- The King's College men's soccer team overcame an early 1-0 deficit by scoring three unanswered goals as the Monarchs posted a 3-1 victory over host Penn State Berks Wednesday in Reading.
With the win, King's improved to 4-2-1 while Berks slipped to 1-4-1.
The Monarchs fell behind just 4:33 into the game on a goal by Cory Gararitano. King's battled back and knotted the score at 1-1 when Brian Alifano struck net off a Mike Smart assist with 2:23 left in the first half.
In the second half King's quickly took the lead when Patrick Griggs scored off a corner kick by David Stroh just 3:24 into the final period. The Monarchs scored the final goal of the match with 30:28 remaining when Stroh scored off an assist by Kevin Buchanan to push the final score to 3-1.
King's dominated play, outshooting the Lions 28-3 while holding a 14-2 advantage in corner kicks. King's goalie Brandon Raynor made his first start of the season and picke up the win without having to make a save. John Murphy posted 12 stops for Berks.
The Monarchs return to the pitch on Saturday with a 7:00 p.m. matchup in Glenside against Arcadia University.
