King's Field Hockey Wins Freedom Conference Opener 5-1 Over Manhattanville
Purchase, N.Y. -- The King's College field hockey team kicked off Freedom Conference play with a 5-1 victory over host Manhattanville Saturday afternoon.
Calli Berryman opened the scoring for the Lady Monarchs (6-3, 1-0 Freedom) picking up her sixth goal of the season on a through pass from Stephanie Wingerter at the 13:29 mark. King's went into the locker room up 2-0 after
Lindsey Paduck netted her first goal of the year at 22:29.
Abby McManus gave King's a quick start to the second half depositing an
Alyssa Monaghan cross to the back of the net just 40 seconds into the period.
The Valiants (4-4, 0-1) cut the lead to 3-1 on a Rylee McGuire goal assisted by Melissa Goncalves, but senior
Jackie Sikora and
Meghan Wernimont added insurance goals to set the final.
Megan Withrow made six saves and allowed one goal while picking up the win in net for King's. Amy Hilton made seven stops for Manhattanville.
The Lady Monarchs step out of conference play when they host Marywood on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
