BERRYMAN FOUR GOALS LIFTS KING'S FIELD HOCKEY PAST MARYWOOD 4-2
WILKES-BARRE -- Calli Berryman scored all four goals to power the King's College field hockey team to a 4-2 victory over visiting Marywood University Tuesday at McCarthy Stadium in the Betzler Athletic Complex.
With the win, King's improved to 6-3 on the year while the Pacers slipped to 1-5.
Marywood took a 1-0 lead when Julie Kowalski scored unassisted 10:29 into the game. King's tied the score at 22:52 when Berryman tipped in a shot from Alyssa Monaghan as the teams entered the halftime break deadlocked at 1-1.
The Lady Monarchs grabbed a 2-1 lead when Berryman scored her second goal off an assist from Kim Howanitz at 49:27 to give the Lady Monarchs a 2-1 lead.
Marywood, however, immediately responded when Kowalski scored on a put-back of her own miss at 50:38 to tie the score at 2-2. The Lady Monarchs , though, also countered when Berryman tallied her third goal of the game off an assist by Meghan Wernimont at the 54:29 29 mark.
Berryman registered her fourth and final goal of the game with just 0:17 remaining to seal the victory for the Lady Monarchs.
King's outshot Marywood 27-10 while holding a commanding 14-3 advantage in penalty corners. Lady Monarch goalie Megan Withrow made six saves while Pacer keeper Natalie Winters posted 15 stops.
King's returns to the field Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. matchup with Cedar Crest College in Allentown.
