Berryman Powers King's to First Ever Win Over Eastern

Wilkes-Barre, Pa.-- Calli Berryman netted the game-winning goal late in the second half and assisted on the game-tying goal to lift the King's College field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over three-time defending Freedom Conference champion Eastern on Saturday at King's College McCarthy Stadium.

Eastern got on the board first with just two minutes left in the first half when Lauren Gay tucked a shot inside the left post off her own rebound. The Eagles (6-4, 1-1 Freedom) took the 1-0 lead to the half.

The Lady Monarchs battled back when Meghan Wernimont buried a Berryman pass off a penalty corner to knot the game 1-1. King's (8-3, 2-0) took the lead at 59:59 when Eastern goalie Kylie Jones tried to kick out a through pass by Stephanie Wingerter, but mishandled the ball that squirted onto the stick of Berryman who finished the play to put the Lady Monarchs up 2-1.

Megan Withrow picked up the win in the cage making seven saves including five in the first half to keep the Lady Monarchs close. Jones made nine saves for the Eagles in the loss.
