King's Holds Off Marywood For 59-55 Non-Conference Win
Scranton, Pa. -- The King's College women's basketball team had four player score in double-figures as they earned a 59-55 win over Marywood at the Insalaco Arena Monday night in non-conference action.
With the win the Lady Monarchs improved to 10-4 overall while Marywood dropped to 8-7.
The Lady Monarchs trailed 26-18 at the break, but scored the first eight points of the second half to tie the game 26-26 on a layup by
Lindsay Atchison and a pair of buckets from
Katlin Michaels. After Marywood retook the lead 30-28 on a Brittany Mang layup, King's went on a 6-2 spurt to take a 34-30 lead with 14:46 on the clock capped by a pair of free throw by
Jessica McHugh.
With the lead at 52-41 after a pair of
Jennifer Fabian free throws, Michaels fouled out of the game with 3:13 to go. Marywood took advantage and battled back with a 9-2 run keyed by four points from Brittany Mang. King's went 5-of-8 from the charity stripe in the final minute to ice the victory.
King's struggled from the floor in the first half shooting missing their first 10 shot from the floor and falling behind 6-0 to start the contest. The Lady Monarch went on 14-2 run to pull ahead 14-8 with 9:17 to play in the first frame, only to go cold again and watch the Pacers build a 22-16 lead with 2:04 remaining in the first.
Atchison led the Lady Monarchs with 12 points and seven rebounds while also notching four blocks.
Celia Rader added 11 points and three boards. Fabian came up just short of a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. Michaels also netted 11 points to go with five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
The Pacer offense was led by Namg with 19 points and nine rebounds. Danielle Terranella added 11 points and eight boards.
The Lady Monarchs go back to conference play on Wednesday when they make the short trip to crosstown rival Wilkes for 6:00 p.m. tip.
