KING'S WRESTLERS FALL TO ELIZABETHTOWN, 23-16
HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — The King's College wrestling team built a 16-7 lead after six bouts, but the Monarchs were unable to make it stand up as Elizabethtown College rallied to win the last four bouts to post a 23-16 victory Saturday at the Metropolitan Conference Duals at Centenary College, Hackettstown, NJ.
The Blue Jays took a 4-0 lead after a major decision victory at 125-pounds, but the Monarchs used a pin from
Aaron Perez (4-4) at 133 and an 8-3 decision by
DeMarquis Holley (12-6) to take a 9-4 lead. After
Chris Mazzocchi (12-5) earned a 5-0 decision for the Monarchs to push the score to 12-7, the Blue Jays picked up a 5-4 decision at 157 to cut the score to 12-7. From there, King's standout
Tommy Desir (16-4) tallied a dominating 23-14 major decision to give the Monarchs a 16-7 lead.
Elizabethtown won the next three matches to take a 17-16 lead heading into the 285-pound match. But with Monarch heavyweight
Peter Dwyer injured and unable to compete, Monarch coach Ned McGinley was forced to juggle his line-up and move 197-pounder
Cemah Tudae-Torboh to heavyweight. The Blue Jays took full advantage and clinched the match when Jeremy Reith secured a second period pin to end the contest.
King's returns to action Thursday when the Monarchs travel to Williamsport to face Lycoming College at 7:00 p.m.
