King's Men's Basketball Drops 69-55 Decision to DeSales

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – The King's College men's basketball team fell to visiting DeSales 69-55 in Freedom Conference action Wednesday night at Scandlon Gymnasium.

The Monarchs trailed 35-31 at the half. DeSales got a layup from Brett Moyer right out of the break to push the lead to 37-31. The teams exchanged 3-pointers, before Matt Fiorino hit a triple and Tom Heston made a layup to cut the lead to 40-39 with 17:48 to play.

DeSales answered with a 13-2 run including a pair of treys from Cody Deal to extend the lead to 53-41 at the 12:39 mark. King's rallied with a 3-pointer from Fiorino and two points each from Mike Foster and Tim O'Shea to cut the lead down to 53-48with 9:49 on the clock.

The Bulldogs pulled away scoring the next 13 points to take a 66-48 lead with 5:55 to play. The lead would never be less than 12 the rest of the way.

The teams played a tight early in the game with the Monarchs holding a 9-6 edge with 12:21 left in the first half. The Bulldogs used a 12-0 spurt to take an 18-9 lead at the 8:36 mark.

DeSales held a 29-19 lead with 3:20 to play in the first half, but the Monarchs were able to close the period on a 12-6 run to cut the lead to 35-31 at the break.

Tom Heston led the way for the Monarchs with a career-high 10 points to go with four rebounds and two blocks. Joe Caffrey added nine points, four boards and three helpers. Kyle Hammonds and Fiorino each also had nine points.

The Bulldog offense was paced by a double-double from Moyer. Moyer posted 22 points and 10 rebounds. Deal scored 12 points and grabbed eight boards. Mike Colman chipped in 12 points and two assists.

The Monarchs continue Freedom Conference play on Saturday when they travel to Eastern University for a 3:00 p.m. tip.
