KING'S FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO MANHATTANVILLE, 4-3

WILKES-BARRE -- Rylee McGuire scored two goals and added an assist as the visiting Manhattanville College field hockey team posted a 4-3 victory over host King's College in a Freedom Conference matchup Friday night at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win, Manhattanville improved to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in the Freedom Conference while King's slipped to 6-6 and 0-3 in league play.

King's took a 1-0 lead just 2:57 into the game when Courtney Schaffer scored unassisted. McGuire knotted the score at 1-1 with 22:09 left in the opening stanza on a pass from Breanna O'Neill.

King's would take a 2-1 lead at the half when Schaffer scored her second goal with 6:36 on the clock off an assist by Meghan Lermond.

In the second half Manhattanville tied the score at 2-2 when Sharon Konfedarak scored unassisted with 31:42 left in the contest.

The Valiants then took a 3-2 lead with 17:58 remaining when McGuire struck net off a pass by O'Neill. The lead grew to 4-2 when Bregje Smiths scored off a penalty corner feed from McGuire with 14:31 to play.

King's fought back and used an unassisted gol form Kim Howanitz to trim the lead to 4-3, but the Lady Monarchs were unable to push across the tying goal as the Valiants walked away with the victory.


King's held a 13-12 advantage in shots along with a 16-13 lead in penalty corners. lady Monarch goalie Megan Withrow posted five saves compared to six for Valiant keeper Amy Hilton.

King's will have eight days of before taking to the field October 19 with a 1:00 p.m. away contest at FDU-Florham in Madison, NJ.
