KING'S FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO WILKES, 4-1

WILKES-BARRE -- The visiting Wilkes University field hockey team opened up a three-goal half-time lead before walking away with a 4-1 victory over host King's College in a Freedom Conference matchup Wednesday night at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win, Wilkes improved to 4-11 overall and 2-3 in Freedom Conference play. King's, meanwhile, fell to 7-7 overall and 1-4 in league competition.  The win by Wilkes marked the Lady Colonels 
first win over King's since the 2009 season.

Wilkes opened the scoring at 28:55 of the first half when
Ashley Hahn scored off an assist from Devon Kriebel. King's tied the game just 1:37 later when Alyssa Monaghan scored unassisted.

Wilkes took a 2-1 led with 11:21 remaining in the opening stanza when Kriebel struck net off an assist from Danielle DeStefano. The score grew to 3-1 with 9:17 left in the half when Taylor Ryan scored on a rebound off a keeper save. 

The Lady Colonels scored what proved to be the final goal of the day when Kerryn Redclay scored on a crossing pass by Emily Saliba with 5:16 remaining in the opening stanza.

 

Wilkes outshot King's 12-7 while each team had 15 penalty corners. King's goalie Megan Withrow had eight saves while Wilkes keeper Alexis Reed posted six stops.

 

King's will next travel to face Misericordia University Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
