KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER DROPS 1-0 DOUBLE-OVERTIME HEARTBREAKER TO WILKES
WILKES-BARRE -- Grace Fazzi scored the game-winning goal with 2:17 left in the second overtime period as the host Wilkes University women's soccer team posted a dramatic 1-0 victory over cross-town rival King's College Wednesday at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
With the win, Wilkes improved to 9-4-3 overall and 4-0-1 in the Freedom Conference while King's slipped to 7-7-1 and 2-3 in league play.
After two scoreless halves and one 10-minute overtime frame, the game appeared headed to a draw. But King's committed a costly turnover deep in its own end of the field and Fazzi capitalized with a shot that bounced into the goal after caroming off the underside of the cross-bar for the game-winner.
Wilkes outshot King's in the game 13-7 and held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
King's goalie Jessica Natale made three saves while Lady Colonel keeper Kate Mahoney posted four stops.
King's returns to action Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. home matchup against Eastern University at McCarthy Stadium.
