KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER POSTS 3-1 WIN OVER FDU-FLORHAM IN LEAGUE OPENER

MADISON, NJ — The King's College women's soccer team broke open a 1-1 game with two goals over the final 3:42 of the game to post a hard-fought 3-1 road victory over host FDU-Florham Saturday in Madison, NJ. It marked King's first win over FDU since a 3-2 overtime victory in 1997.

With the win, King's improved to 6-3-1 overall while FDU slipped to 5-7 and 0-1.

The Devils took a 1-0 lead at the half when Michelle Hickey scored off an assist from Samantha Messina at the 37:02 mark.

King's tied the score at 1-1 when Gabrielle Murphy struck net at 38:13 of the second half off an assist from Erin Laird.  The game appeared headed to overtime but the Lady Monarchs had other thoughts when Ivy Nulton scored with 3:43 remaining off an assist off a chip-pass from Amy Barge to push the score to 2-1. King's added an insurance goal with 2:01 to play when Nulton scored again, this time off a corner kick of the foot of Shaina Dougherty. FDU outshot King's 26-9 while the Devisl had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

King's goalie Jessica Natale made 19 saves while Devil keeper Annie George had two stops.

The Lady Monarchs return to play Wednesday with a trip to Mt. St. Mary's (NY) in a 7 PM matchup.
