KING'S MEN'S SOCCER POSTS 6-0 VICTORY OVER PENN STATE BERKS
WILKES-BARRE -- Chris Nygren scored a pair of goals, Niall Croke dished out two assists, and the King's College defense held visiting Penn State Berks without a shot as the Monarchs posted a 6-0 victory in a non-conference men's soccer game Tuesday night at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win, King's improved to 5-3-2 while Berks fell to 1-12.
King's took a 1-0 lead just 3:17 into the match when Croke's shot on an indirect kick caromed off the wall to Chris Nygren, who calmly drilled a shot inside the right post.
Nygren struck again when stripped a Berks defender and scored on a breakaway with 20:08 left in the half. The lead swelled to 3-0 when Kevin Burke scored off an assist from Cameron Rhodes with 5:49 left in the opening stanza.
King's pushed the lead to 4-0 when Ritchie Reyes' crossing pass to Croke was immediately headed to Eric Stanfield who scored on a one-timer to complete a rare double-assist goal with 39:13 left in the second half.
The lead swelled to 5-0 when Daniel Hernandez took a thru ball up the middle from Niall to score with 20:14 left in the contest.
King's Raul Cruz rounded out the scoring with 4:46 to go when he drilled a shot from 25 yards out into the upper left corner of the net.
King's held a 32-0 advantage in shots while owning a 12-0 lead in corner kicks.
King's returns to the field Saturday when the Monarchs travel to Doylestown to face Delaware Valley College in a 12:00 noon matchup.
