Short-Handed King's Grapplers Drop 41-7 Decision to TCNJ
Wilkes-Barre, Pa. -- A banged up King's College wrestling team surrendered four forfeit losses in a 41-7 loss to visiting College of New Jersey Wednesday night at Scandlon Gymnasium.
Prior to the match, King's recognized former Monarch mat standout Larry Danko who was a three-time All-American and NCAA Division III National runner-up in 1990. Danko was recognized for his induction into the Middle Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame Class of 2013.
The Monarchs fell in an early 18-0 hole after giving up forfeit losses at 125, 133 and 141 to open the match. Christian Mazzocchi got King's on the board with a 2-1 at 149 needing three extra sessions to get the victory.
TCNJ got a 6-1 win from Chris Serpico over Gordan Custer at 157. At 165 King's
Tommy Desir backed up his #10 national ranking with 21-8 major decision over Nick Herring to cut the lead to 21-7.
The Monarchs were shutout the rest of the way as the Lions Zach Zottollo, the nations top 174 pounder, scored a tech fall over
Tyler McGuigan and Ricky Cordero picked up a forfeit win at 184.
In the 197 pound bout TCNJ's Nathaniel Leer pinned Daniel Harthusen off a scramble at 1:22. The Lion's Jeffrey Furbish set the final with a 4-0 decision over King's
Elijah Gresham.
The Monarchs dual meet record is now 1-2 while TCNJ improved to 1-1. King's is back in action on Dec. 7 when they travelto the RIT Tournament.
