King's Baseball Slugs Out 30 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep of Delaware Valley
Wilkes-Barre, Pa.-- The King's College bats came alive for 30 runs on 30 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Delaware Valley on Saturday in Freedom Conference action at Lipo Field.
The Monarchs took the opener 12-5 behind a three-hit game from
Anthony Lizzi.
Chris Sweeney belted a pair of home runs in the night cap to help King's to an 18-5 victory.
In game one King's fell behind early as the Aggies tallied a pair of runs in the first inning keyed by a Jordan Heisler double. Delaware Valley extended its lead to 5-0 in the second inning with Andrew Welch, Brandon Bell and Pete O'Hara picking up RBI.
King's answered in the bottom of the frame with five runs of their own.
Eric Bohem was hit by a pitch and scored on the two run bomb by Lizzi over the left field fence. The Monarchs struck for three more runs in with two outs.
Cody Krupa drew a walk then four straight Monarch hits brought in three runs to tie the game 5-5 after two innings.
The Monarchs finally broke the tie with a huge seven run sixth inning. Lizzi led off with a double to right center followed by a
Rich Acierno walk.
Tim Marchetti bunted the runners to second and third. Krupa hit a ball to the third baseman who chose to come home where the ball got away from the catcher allowing Lizzi and pinch-runner
Danny Ouimette to score.

Rob Lemoncelli notched back to back RBI hits to push the King's lead to 9-5. King's pushed three more runs across before the end of the sixth.
After a rough first two innings King's starter
Brenton Eades settled in holding the Aggies without a hit in the final five innings picking up the complete-game win on the hill. Jake Richard was hung with the loss after allowing seven runs in 3.2 innings of work.
Lizzi led the way for the Monarch offense with a 3-for-4 performance with three RBI and two runs scored. Sweeney added a pair of hits while driving in two.
In the night cap the King's bats picked up right where they left off scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first when Lizzi doubled home Sweeney and Bohem.
Delaware Valley scored a single run in the top of the second before the Monarchs posted a nine spot in the bottom of the frame keyed by a monster three-run jack from Sweeney. The Aggies came back with three of their own in the third to cut the lead to 11-4, but never got any closer.
Sweeney belted his second home run of the game in the third as King's posted two runs in the third, fourth and fifth.
The King's offense in game two was paced by a 4-for-5 day from Sweeney with four RBI and four runs scored. Chris DeCarlo added three hits with a run and an RBI. Lizzi also added three hits.
Ryan Gimbi was the winner for the Monarchs going four innings allowing four runs with three strikeouts and six walks.
King's improved 8-2 on the season and 2-1 in the Freedom Conference while Delaware Valley falls to 7-7 and 1-3 in league play. The two teams square off tomorrow for a single game at Delaware Valley to finish the three-game series. The game starts a 1:00 p.m.
