KING'S DROPS TWIN BILL TO MISERICORDIA
WILKES-BARRE -- Visiting Misericordia University swept both ends of a Freedom Conference doubleheader Thursday at King's College's Betzler Athletic Complex. The Cougars won the first game 9-4 before taking the nightcap 7-3.
The wins enabled Misericordia to improve to 15-4 overall and 6-1 in Freedom Conference games. King's, meanwhile, slipped to 9-5 and 3-4 in league play.
In the opener, King's took a 2-0 first inning lead before Misericordia used four runs in the second inning and five in the fourth frame to build a 9-3 advantage.
Andrew Tressa was 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI while Joe Tagliarini finished 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBI. Kyle Lindsay was 2-for-4 with a RBI. Evan Robaczewski (5-1) picked up the pitching victory for the Cougars.
Eric Bohem topped King's by going 2-for-4 with two RBI while Cody Krupa was 2-for-3 with two doubles. Chris Sweeney was 1-for-4 with two runs and a solo home run. his fifth of the season. Monarch starter Brenton Eades (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season, allowing eight hits and nine earned runs in four innings.
In the second game, the Cougars led 2-1 before scoring three runs in the fourth to build a 6-1 lead The Monarchs added two runs in the fifth inning before Misericordia added an insurance run in the seventh.
Mike Impellittiere was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Lindsay finished 2-for-4 while Kenny Durling went 2-for-3. Ryan Cacchioli added a two-run triple. Pete Doggott (1-0) was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs on nine hits in five innings. Justin Haddix picked up the save, allowing one hit in two innings.
Sweeney topped King's by going 3-for-3 with a double while Jared Turner was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Rob Lemoncelli added a double for King's while Anthony Re and Tim Marchetti also had singles.
Ryan Gimbi (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season, allowing five earned runs on eight hits in four innings.
King's returns to action Monday when the Monarchs host Mt. St. Vincent at 1:00 p.m.
