King's Baseball Closes Out Spring Trip 4-1 With Win Over Mount Aloysius

Myrtle Beach, SC -- The King's College baseball team closed out a very successful spring trip going 4-1 after knocking off Mount Aloysius 10-4 in the trip finale Tuesday morning at the Ripken Experience complex in Myrtle Beach.

The Monarchs jumped out early and never looked back scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first. Rob Lemoncelli led off the game with a single to left and then scored on a Chris Sweeney triple. Sweeney scored on an RBI ground out by Eric Bohem. King's tacked on another runs in the third and foutrh to hold a 4-0 lead.

King's broke the game open in the fifth scoring five runs keyed by a two out, two-run double by Rich Acierno. After the Acierno double Anthony Lizzi reached on an error by the shortstop allowing Acierno to score. After a single by Cody Krupa Tim Marchetti laced a single to center bringing around Lizzi and Krupa making the score 9-0 King's.

The Mounties got on the board in the bottom of the fifth after a lead-off walk by Patrick Gully and back to back singles by Corey Dick and Jacob Stump. King's starter Ryan Gimbi buckled down sandwiching a fly out to right with two strikeouts to get out of trouble.

After an uneraned run in the top of the eighth for the Monarchs, Mount Aloysius rallied for three runs in the bottom of the frame. Ian Helsel led off the inning with a walk chasing Gimbi. King's reliever Jared Turner then hit Brock Gladfelter. After a fly out to right Aaron Kovach belted a three-run homer to left to cut the lead to 10-4. Jesse Bortner doubled and Gully singled to put runners at the corners, but Turner induced Dick to ground into the inning ending 6-4-3 double play.

Gimbi was solid on the hill picking up the win going seven innings scattering six hits allowing two runs with six strikeouts and three walks. Daniel Resavy took the loss for the Mounties going 5.1 innings giving up nine runs, six earned, on 16 hits.

Lemoncelli and Sweeney each went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Marchetti also notched a 3-for-5 day with a pair of runs batted in. Mikus, Bohem, Acierno and Cody Krupa each collected two hits.

Kovach paced the offense for the Mounties going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored. Stumpf was the only other Mount Aloysius player to have multiple hits.

The Monarchs are back in action on Sunday when they host University of Scranton at King's Lipo Filed at 12:00 p.m.
