KING'S BASEBALL POSTS 9-4 WIN OVER PENN COLLEGE

WILKES-BARRE -- Chris DeCarlo had two hits and drove in three runs as the King's College baseball team posted a 9-4 victory over visiting Penn College Thursday at Lipo Field in the Betzler Athletic Complex.

With the win, King's improved to 14-9 on the year while Penn College slipped to 14-8.

The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead after the game's first at-bats when Zach Buterbaugh
singled and later scored from third on an infield grounder by Cody Buterbaugh.

The Monarchs countered with four runs in the bottom of the first inning when Joe Zito
led off with a a base hit, Brian Mikus walked, and Chris Sweeney delivered a RBI single. Anthony Lizzi followed with a run-scoring double before Eric Boehm drove in a run with an infield ground out. Jared Turner then made it a 4-1 game with a RBI double.

After scoreless second and third innings, the Monarchs
added a run in the fourth when Tim Zaccone reached base on a fielder's, then stole second and moved to third on an error. Zito then stroked a RBI single to push the score to 5-1.

King's broke the game open with three more runs in the fifth inning when Sweeney led off with a double and scored on a base hit from Lizzi
. After Bohem singled, Turner advanced both runners with a bunt. DeCarlo then came through with a two-run single to push the score to 8-1.

After the Wildcats scored three runs in the sixth
, King's added an insurance run in the seventh. Bohem and Turner both singled and DeCarlo came through with a run-scoring single to bring the score to 9-4.

Mike Gagen
shut the door on the Wildcats by pitching the final two innings without allowing a base hit.

DeCarlo
finished 2-for-4 Bohem was 3-for-4 with two runs and a RBI. Sweeney went 2-for-4 with two runs, a double, and a RBI while Lizzi finished 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Turner, re, and Zito contributed to King's 15 hit attack with two base hits apiece.

Shawn Heck (2-1) was the winning pitcher for King's, allowing one run on one hit with two strikeouts in three innings of work.

The Monarchs return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader against Manhattanville
College in Purchase, NY. The teams will then play a single game at King's Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Lipo Field.
