KING'S BASEBALL SPLITS WITH MANHATTANVILLE, GIMBI TOSSED ONE-HITTER IN GAME-TWO LOSS
PURCHASE, NY -- The King's College baseball team split the first two games in a three-game weekend series set with host Manhattanville College Saturday in Purchase, NY.
King's won the first game 6-2 before dropping a 1-0 heartbreaker in the nightcap. With the split, King's now stands at 15-10 overall and 5-9 in Freedom Conference play. Manhattanville is 9-20 and 6-8 in league play.
In the opener, Eric Bohem was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI to pace the Monarchs. Rob Lemoncelli finished 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI while Chris Sweeney was 1-for-1 three runs scored. Sweeney was walked twice and was also hit by a pitch. Anthony Lizzi went 1-for-3 with a run and a two-run double. Anthony re and Tim Zaccone also chipped in with one hit apiece.
Monarch pitcher Brenton Eades (6-1) picked up the complete-game victory, allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts in seven innings.
In the second game Manhattanville pushed across the lone run of the game in the first inning. Bohem and Lemoncelli led King's with two hits each in the nightcap. while Jared Turner and Lizzi added one hit apiece.
Sweeney went 0-3 in the game and saw his school-record 22-game hitting streak come to an end.
King's hurler Ryan Gimbi (3-2) was outstanding as the hard-luck loser tossing a one-hitter while striking out seven batters in the contest.
King's and Manhattanville will play the deciding third game Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Betzler Athletic Complex in Wilkes-Barre Township.
