MONARCH TENNIS TEAM IMPROVES TO 3-0 IN FREEDOM PLAY WITH 6-3 TRIUMPH OVER FDU
?WILKES-BARRE -- Tony Bevevino and Bobby Buttafogo won deciding three-set matches as the King's College men's tennis team posted an important 6-3 victory over Freedom Conference rival FDU-Florham Saturday at Kirby Park.
With the win, King's improved to 7-6 overall and 3-0 in Freedom Conference play while FDU slipped to 3-10 and 1-2 in league competition.
King's took a 2-1 after doubles with Bevevino and Jake Rohring winning in the number-one slot while Buttafogo teamed with Chris DiMino for a win in the second flight.
In singles, after four completed matches were split 2-2 by King's and FDU, the Monarchs held onto a 4-3 lead with two matches left. There, Buttafogo won a three setter by a 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 6-0 count, followed by Buttafogo earning a 6-2, 6-7 (9-11), 10-7 victory to clinch the match.
DiMino also added a singles victory for the Monarchs, who host Marywood Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Kirby Park. The Monarchs will then entertain Keystone at 2:00 p.m.
