KING'S BASEBALL DEFEATS FDU 10-7 IN 11 INNINGS

MADISON, NJ -- The King's College baseball team pushed across three runs in the top of the 11th inning as the Monarchs posted a critical 10-7 Freedom Conference victory over host FDU-Florham Friday in Madison, NJ.

With the win, King's improved to 16-11 overall and 6-10 in Freedom Conference games. FDU, meanwhile, fell to 12-17 and 8-8. The teams will conclude their three-game weekend series Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at King's.

The win was especially important for KIng's which stood in seventh place in the eight-team Freedom Conference with five games left in the regular-season. The Monarchs still trail FDU (8-8), Wilkes (7-9), Manhattanville (7-9), and Eastern (6-9) for one of the final two spots in the league playoffs.

Deadlocked at 7-7, King's Jared Turner led off the 11th inning with a single before Chris DeCarlo also singled, advancing pinch-runner Kris Carr to second base. Anthony Re then stroked a RBI single to centerfield, followed by a run-scoring single from Rob Lemoncelli to push the score to 9-7. The Monarchs tallied their final run when Chris Sweeney drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Re from third base.

In the bottom of the 11th, Monarch relief pitcher Brenton Eades yielded a leadoff single, but then retired the next three batters to give King's the victory.

King's opened up a 3-0 lead in the second inning on a RBI fielder's choice from Rob Lemoncelli and a two-run single by Brian Mikus.

The Devils later countered with three runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth to take a 5-3 lead.

But the Monarchs responded with four runs in the seventh after a RBI double by Anthony Lizzi and RBI single from Eric Bohem to tie the game at 5-5. Anthony Re and Lemoncelli added bases-loaded walks to force in two more as the Monarchs took a 7-5 lead.

In the bottom of the ninth, however, King's yielded a leadoff walk and wild pitch to give the Devils a runner at second-base. After registering two outs, FDU took advantage of a King's error and cut the score to 7-6. The Devils the sent the game to extra inning with an RBI double, setting up the Monarchs extra-inning win.

Mikus was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI while Turner was also 3-for-5 with a run scored. Lemoncelli was 2-for-6 with three RBI while Bohem was 2-for-6 with a double and one RBI. Lizzi was 2-for-5 with a double and RBI while Re chipped in with two RBI.
