KING'S BASEBALL DROPS SERIES OPENER TO DESALES

CENTER VALLEY -- Host DeSales University overcame a 1-0 deficit after four innings to rebound for a 13-3 victory over visiting King's College in the first of a three-game weekend series Friday in Center Valley.

With the win, DeSales
improved to 28-8 and 16-3 in Freedom Conference play while the Monarchs fell to 16-14 and 6-13.

King's took a 1-0 first inning lead when Rob Lemoncelli
doubled and scored on a base hit from Anthony Lizzi.

The Monarchs maintained the lead until the fifth when the Bulldogs
plated four runs. King's countered with two runs in the sixth when Eric Bohem was hit by a pitch and Jared Turner singled. After a hunt by Tim Marchetti advance both runners, Anthony Re drove in a run with an infield grounder. Tim Zaccone then followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Turner from third.

But DeSales
blew the game open with five runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth to push the score to 13-3.

In the ninth, King's
Cody Krupa singled and Ed McNichol reached on an error, giving King's runners at first and third. Brian Mikus then plated Krupa on a sacrifice fly to bring the game to 13-4. After Chris Sweeney singled, Eric Bohem and Rich Acierno delivered back-to-back RBI singles to cut the lead to 13-6. The Monarchs, however, would draw no closer as DeSales walked away with the victory.

Marchetti
led King's by going 2-for-4 while Lizzi finished 2-for-5 with a RBI double. Lemoncelli, Mikus, Sweeney, Bohem, Turner, and Acierno all finished with one hit each for the Monarchs. King's starting pitcher Joe Dorbad took the loss, allowing six earned runs in six innings, walking five and striking out three batters.

For DeSales
, Brian Mauro was 3-for-4 while Justin Scerbo, Jack Kavetski, and Derek Chrismer added two hits apiece. Dan Gayeski was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs, two earned, in six innings while striking out four batters.

The teams will continue their series Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at King's.
