Wilkes-Barre, Pa. -- The King's College baseball team out hit visiting Eastern 15-9, but fell 10-8 in the opener of a three-game weekend series with the Eagles Friday afternoon at Lipo Field.

The Monarchs trailed 3-1 going to the bottom of the fifth, but King's rallied getting four runs with Anthony Lizzi, Eric Bohem and Jared Turner picked up RBI putting King's up 5-3. Bohem extended the lead in the sixth belting a two out triple to left center scoring Brian Mikus and Lizzi giving the Monarchs a 7-3 edge.

Eastern regained the lead in the top of the seventh taking advantage of three King's errors and a three-run triple from Anthony Messina giving the Eagles an 8-7 advantage. The Eagles tallied two more runs in the eighth on a two-out two-run single by Angelo Kelly.

Bohem drove home another run in the bottom of the frame with a solo home run. King's had an opportunity to tie the game in the ninth after Cody Krupa led off the frame with a double. Anthony Re and Rob Lemoncelli recorded outs ahead of Mikus drawing a walk. Chris Sweeney hit a screaming line drive that was knocked down by the shortstop to end the game.

Bohem finished the game 3-for-5, only a double shy of the cycle, with four RBI and a run scored. Sweeney collected three hits, one run and one RBI. He now has 196 career hits and needs just four to become the second Monarch baseball player to reach th 200-hit plateau.  Lizzi and Jared Turner each tallied a pair of hits.

Greg DeSarro and Kelly each picked up a pair of hits. Kelly drove in three runs while DeSarro scored two and drove in two.

Ben Melendez picked up the win on the bump going seven innings allowing seven runs, six earned, with two strikeouts and one walk. Joe Dorbad was hung with the loss in relief pitching three innings giving up seven runs, only three earned, with seven strikeouts and a pair of walks.

The two teams square off in a doubleheader on Saturday in St. Davids to finish out the three game series at 12:00 p.m.
