KING'S FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO SCRANTON, 4-1
WILKES-BARRE -- Krista Osborne scored two goals and Cassie Mullen added one goal and one assist to lead the University of Scranton field hockey team to a 4-1 victory over host King's College Tues day night at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win, Scranton improved to 5-0 on the year and posted its first victory over King's since the 2007 season, snapping a four-game losing streak against the Lady Monarchs from 2009-2012. The teams did not play in 2008. King's, meanwhile, slipped to 3-3 on the year.
Scranton took a 1-0 lead 5:27 into the game when Krista Osborne scored off an assist from Cassie Mullen.
King's tied the score just 3:04 later when Alyssa Monaghan scored unassisted.
The Lady Royals took a 2-1 lead with 23:31 left in the half when Alyssa Fania scored off a pass by Jessica Conroy on a penalty corner.
Scranton took a 3-1 lead into the break when Osborne scored off a steal and breakaway with 12:49 left in the opening stanza.
The lead grew to 4-1 just 4:25 into the second half when Mullen struck net off an assist by Fania.
Scranton held a 17-5 advantage in shots as well as a 10-8 lead in penalty corners. Megan Withrow posted nine saves while Royal keeper Krista Mundy talled two stops.
King's will be idle until Monday when the Lady Monarchs travel to face Marywood at 4:00 p.m. in Scranton. King's, however, will host its Alumni Game Saturday at 12:00 noon at McCarthy Stadium.
