KING'S FIELD HOCKEY TEAM POSTS 3-1 ROAD VICTORY OVER MARYWOOD
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College field hockey team scored all three goals in the first half as the Lady Monarchs walked away with a 3-1 victory over host Marywood University Tuesday in Scranton.
With the win, King's improved to 4-3 on the year while Marywood slipped to 0-8.
King's opened the scoring just 4:49 into the game when Abby McManus scored off a crossing pass across the goal-mouth from Alyssa Monaghan.
The lead grew to 2-0 at the 14:38 mark when Kim Howanitz converted a feed from McManus off a penalty corner. The Lady Monarchs pushed the score to 3-0 when Monaghan scored unassisted at 27:39.
Marywood got on the board seven minutes later when Leanne McManus scored off a pass by Amelia Waibel with 0:24 left in the opening half.
King's outshot Marywood 22-11 and held 13-4 advantage in penalty corners. Lady Monarch goalie Megan Withrow made five saves while Pacer keeper Natalie Winters posted 12 stops.
King's returns to the field Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. home game against Cedar Crest College.
