KING'S FIELD HOCKEY POSTS 6-2 WIN OVER KEYSTONE

WILKES-BARRE -- Kim Howanitz scored two goals and the King's College field hockey team score three times in each half as the Lady Monarchs posted a 6-2 victory over Keystone College Friday afternoon in the Misericordia University Invitational.

With the win King's improved to 1-1 while Keystone slipped to 0-2.

Howanitz opened the scoring 11:57 into the game on an unassisted goal. The lead grew to 2-0 four minutes later when Alyssa Monaghan also struck net unassisted.

After Beanna Paulson got Keystone on the board with a goal with a goal just 0:19 later. But the Lady Monarchs took a 3-1 lead at the half when Courtney Shaffer found the back of the net off an assist by Caitlin Haenig with14:23 left in the opening stanza.

King's struck quickly in the second half when Abby McManus scored just 0:51 into the final session but Keystone cut the lead to 4-2 on a Jessica Fusco tally at the 59:17 mark.

But King's shut the door when Howantiz scored her second goal off a McManus assist at 61:20 before Alexandra Bolinsky added the final goal of the game at 65:02.

King's outshot Keystone 36-6 and held  a dominating 19-4 advantage in penalty corners. King's goalie Megan Withrow posted two saves.

The Lady Monarchs continue tournament play Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. matchup with Juniata College.
