King's Women's Basketball Downed by DeSales
Center Valley, Pa. -- Host DeSales built a 20-point halftime lead, 45-25, to knock off King's College 85-64 in Freedom Conference action Wednesday night at Billera Hall.
Jennifer Fabian got the Lady Monarchs on the board first with a layup, but Sondrine Glovas hit a 3-pointer on DeSales next possession that sparked a 9-0 spurt to put the Bulldogs up 9-2. King's cut the lead to 15-10 with 11:58 to play in the first half on a
Jessica McHugh free throw.
The Bulldogs pushed the lead back to 12, 24-12, with a 9-2 run keyed by a pair of triples by Mikelyn Mackavage. King's battled back again getting as close as 24-17 with after a
Kasey Seitz 3-point bucketat the 7:22 mark, but DeSales had the answer pushing the lead back to 36-19 with 2:56 left in the half after a 12-2 run capped by a Megan Baird trey.
After trailing 45-25 at the break King's fought back in the first six minutes of the second frame to cut the lead in half, 52-42, using a 17-7 run keyed by seven points from
Jennifer Fabian. The teams traded 3-point baskets before the Bulldogs pulled away for good 16-7 spurt to extend the lead back to 71-52 with 7:45 to play.
The Lady Monarch offense was paced by McHugh who tallied a career high 14 points while grabbing six rebounds. Fabian added 13 points, five boards and four blocks.
Kayla Feairheller also scored in double figures with 10 points.
Five DeSales players reached double figures led by 20 from Mackavage. Megan Gallagher notched a double-double of 16 points and 10 boards. Glovas also tallied 16 points. Baird and Alex Suk each chipped in 13 points.
King's falls to 4-10 overall and 0-3 in Freedom Conference play while DeSales moved to 12-2 overall and 2-1 in league play.
The Lady Monarchs are back in action when they continue conference play against Eastern Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Scandlon Gymnasium.
