KING'S MEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS DELAWARE VALLEY, 3-1WILKES-BARRE, PA --- The King's College men's soccer team used two first half goals to defeat Delaware Valley College 3-1 on Senior Day at McCarthy Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
With the win King's improves their record to 12-5-1 overall and 4-2 in the Freedom Conference while Delaware Valley falls to 3-13-2 overall and 0-6 in Freedom play.
The Monarchs got on the board early in the first half when
Kevin Hagmeier was able to find the back of the net off an assist from
David Stroh at 7:25. The second goal came a little over 30 minutes later when Hagmeier found
Kevin Hopkins on a through pass and Hopkins fought off a couple of defenders and put it past the goalie from the top of the box.
In the second half Delaware Valley got on the board first at the 54:38 mark when Justin Mannato found the back of the net from the top of the box to cut King's lead to 2-1. The Monarchs would respond at 73:32 when
Chris Nygren was able to curve a corner kick from the left side into the upper right corner of the goal.
The Monarchs outshot the Aggies 19-5 and held a 11-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Tyler Wilson made two saves in goal.
King's will now play their final regular season next Saturday when they travel to Purchase, NY to face Manhattanville College at 3:30 p.m.
