KINGS FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO DESALES IN SEASON FINALE

WILKES-BARRE -- Alison Malatesta scored the lone goal of the game with just under three minutes left in the first half as the visiting DeSales University posted a  1-0 victory over host King's College in the Monarchs finale game of the season Tuesday night at McCarthy Stadium.

King's finished the season with an 8-9 overall mark while going 2-5 in Freedom Conference play. It marked the first time since the 2003 campaign that King's finished the season with a final record under the .500 plateau. It was also King's first loss to DeSales since the 2009 year.

DeSales reached the scoreboard with 2:53 left in the first half when Jesse Marshall sent a crossing pass from the rght wing to the far post where Malatesta redirected the ball into the net for what proved to be the winning goal.

Neither team generated much offense with DeSales holding a 9-3 lead in total shots as well as a 14-6 advantage in penalty corners. King's goalie Paige Tedik made six saves while DeSales keeper Becky Rasmuson posted one stop.
