KING'S MEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATS PENN COLLEGE 87-50 TO REACH SUSQUEHANNA TOURNEY FINALSELINGROVE, PA ---
Chris Fazzini scored 12 of his game high 16 points to lead the King's College men's basketball team to a 87-50 victory over Penn College of Technology in the opening round of the Pepsi Tip-Off Tournament Friday at Susquehanna University.
With the win, King's improves to 3-0 while Penn College of Technology falls to 0-2.
The Monarchs used a 16-3 run over a five minute stretch in the middle of the first half to turn a one point lead at 21-20 into a 37-23 advantage. The defense held the Wildcats without a field goal during the run. Fazzini hit a jumper with 56 seconds left in the first half to give King's its largest lead of the half at 17 before Penn College hit two foul shots to give a King's 47-32 halftime advantage.
Fazzini finished 7-9 from the field and had three rebounds to pace King's.
Nate Oliver followed with 14 points including shooting 3-3 from three-point range. Dan Borner had 12 points with six rebounds while
Tom Heston contributed nine points and six rebounds.
Dan Rutecki added nine points and a game high eight rebounds.
King's shot 53.0 (35-66) percent for the game and shot 33.3 (4-12) percent from three-point range. The Monarchs committed 18 turnovers while forcing the Wildcats in 21 miscues.
James Boylan led the Wildcats with 11 points and five rebounds. Nathaniel Brown scored nine points and Ezra Adams had eight points and five rebounds.
The Monarchs will now play in the title game of the Pepsi Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. against host Susquehanna University, a 99-57 winner over Penn State Worthington Scranton.
