KING'S WOMEN POST 70-59 WIN OVER MISERICORDIA TO SWEEP SEASON SERIES

DALLAS -- Marissa Manning and Kayla Feairheller combined for 42 points and 13 rebounds to power the visiting King's College women's basketball team to a 70-59 victory over host Misericordia University Tuesday night in the Anderson Center.

With the win King's swept the season series over the Cougars,  improving to 7-17 overall and 3-10 in Freedom Conference play. Misericordia, meanwhile, fell to 8-15 and 4-9.

King's jumped out to a 7-0 lead just 2:19 into the game thanks to five points from Jennifer Fabian and two by Feairheller. After the Cougars battled back to within 9-8 at the 14:15 mark, the Lady Monarchs outscored the Cougars 23-7 over the next 9:23 to build a on a 32-15 after a pair of three-pointers from Feairheller, a short jumper by Sara Krupinski, and baskets from Manning and Feairheller with 3:53 left in the opening stanza.

The Cougars used a 9-0 surge to come to within 32-24 with 0:46 to play but Manning closed out the half with a driving lay-up with 0:20 remaining as King's took a 34-24 lead at the break.  Feairheller scored 14 first half points for King's while Manning followed with 13.

In the second half Misericordia  came out of the gates and outscored the Lady Monarchs 14-7 to close to within 41-38 on a bucket by Katie Drayton with 15:38 remaining.

But King's held firm after Misericordia began to foul trailing 52-47 with 8:57 left. The Lady Monarchs made 9-of-10 over the next 2:16 to stretch the lead to 61-49 with 6:42 left in the game.

Misericordia looked to rally and got baskets from Shannon Croasdale and Sam Baro to trim the lead to 63-55 with 2:06 left on the clock.

The Cougars again began to foul and Kasey Seitz drained a pair of charity tosses to pus the score to 65-55 with 1:24 to go. After a Cougar miss, Tara Zdancewicz was fouled and made both attempts to give King's a 67-55 lead with 1:24 to play.

After the Cougars scored on a Kelsey Wantz jumper to cut the lead to 67-57 with 1:06 remaining, Seitz was again fouled and made both shots with 0:35 to give King's a 69-57 advantage. Following a Cougar miss, Feairheller was fouled with 0:22 left and made one-of-two attempts for a 70-57 lead. 

Wantz then scored on an uncontested lay-up with 0:09 to go to set the final score at 70-59.

Manning finished the game with 21 points, seven rebounds, and two assists while making 7-of-11 from the foul line. Feairheller also tallied 21 points with six rebounds, and two three-pointers. Fabian added 13 points and five boards while Seitz contributed six points, three rebounds, and two assists while going 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Krupinski contributed four points, seven rebounds, and four assists while Zdancewicz chipped in with four points and three boards.

Misericordia was led by Nikki Baro with 13 points and four rebounds while Sam Baro followed with 11 points and three assists. Hannah Seeley chipped in with 10 points and 13 boards while Katie Drayton netted nine points.

King's will close out its season Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. road game at cross-town rival Wilkes in the Marts Center.
