KING'S WRESTLERS FALL TO 8TH RANKED WILKES, 43-3
WILKES-BARRE -- The eighth-ranked Wilkes University wrestling team won nine of the 10 bouts en route to a 43-3 victory over visiting King's College Thursday night in the Marts Center.
With the win, King's slipped to 2-13 while the Colonels improved to 18-3.
The Monarchs were forced to forfeit three bouts on the night a King's essentially trailed 18-0 before the match even started. The Monarchs also competed without fifth-ranked Tommy Desir (22-0) who was rested in advance of the upcoming NCAA East Regional Championships.
King's lone win of the night came at 184-pounds when junior Shane Stark (13-4) posted a 4-0 decision over Levi Veppert. King's received a strong effort from senior Chris Mazzocchi (14-8) who dropped a hard-fought 4-0 decision over fifth-ranked Mike Hartenstine (34-1) at 149 while Anthony Lussi was edged 5-3 by Nick Lynch at 174.
The Monarchs will be idle until King's hosts the NCAA East Regionals on Sunday, March 2 in Scandlon Gymnasium. Â
