KING'S GRAPPLERS FALL AT ELIZABETHTOWN, 27-22

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Host Elizabethtown College jumped out to a 15-0 lead after the first three weights and held off a late King's College as the Blue Jays posted a 27-22 Middle Atlantic Conference victory Thursday night in Elizabethtown.

With the win, Elizabethtown improved to 3-8 while King's fell to 1-11 on the year.

The Blue Jays quick start was aided by the Monarchs who were forced to forfeit the first two weight classes, giving the Blue Jays a 12-0 lead before the first match ever took place. At 141, King's Giacomo Dinicole dropped a 9-5 decision to Chad Lammer as the Monarchs fell into a 15-0 hole.

King's got on the board at 149 when Chris Mazzocchi pinned Michael Henning in 2:34 to cut the lead to 15-6.  The Monarchs earned another fall at 157 when Gordon Custer decked Rafi Sayada in 2:57 to trim the lead to 15-12.

Elizabethtown recaptured the momentum at 165 when King's fifth-ranked senior Tommy Desir (21-0) was rested due to a minor injury. Freshman Matt Lukachinsky stepped in and battled hard in dropping a 15-8 decision as the Blue Jay lead grew to 18-12.  At 174 E-town's William Herman pinned Angelo Lussi in 2:38 to up the lead to 24-12.

In the feature match at 184, a pair of Division III national qualifiers squared off as Elizabethtown's Julian Meaney edged King's Shane Stark 5-3 to set the score at 27-12.  King's won the final two matches when Cemah Tudae-Torboh tallied a 10-2 major decision over Benjamin Martin. Monarch freshman heavyweight Elijah Gresham then closed out the meet by pinning Jared Weaver in 4:18.

King's will have little time to rest when the Monarchs return to the mat Friday with a 7:00 p.m. MAC matchup at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown.
