MANHATTANVILLE REALLIES IN SECOND GAME TO POST SWEEP OVER KING'S


YAPHANK, NY -- Manhattanville College ralied from a 10-8 deficit to post five runs in the seventh ining to post a 12-10 victory and complete a Freedom Conference doubleheader sweep over King's College Saturday at the Baseball Heaven Complex in Yaphank, NY.

With the win Manhattanville improved to 6-3 and 2-0 in Freedom Conference play while King's slipped to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in league competition.

In the opener, the third inning proved to be the Monarchs undoing with four errors, and two wild pitches contributing to five unearned runs for Manhattanville. Elias Tsouristakis reached base with one-out on catcher interference and things quickly went south for the Monarchs. Three base hits, including a two-run single by Delahanty gave the Valiants a 5-0 lead.

The Monarchs made three more errors in the sixth inning as the Valiants put the game away with five more runs, three which were earned. A three-run home run by Chris Lattarulo and a solo shot from Robbie Lynch were the big blows for the Valiants.

King's reached the scoreboard in the seventh inning when Greg Bartle hit a solo home run over the left field fence. Ryan Civello then doubled, moved to third on an infield out, and score on an error. Dan Tully, who reached base on the error. later scored on an RBI single by Tom Gibbons. King's finished with four hits, including a single from Tim Zaccone and Gibbons, along with a double by Civelo and home run from Bartle.

Monarch starting pitcher Ryan Gimbi pitched well, lasting four full innings and allowing five runs, none earned, on three hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

Lattarurlo was 1-for-1 with three RBI and two runs while John Delahanty was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Valiant pitcher Alex Basso allowed three runs, one earned, on four hits and struck out eight batters to pick up the complete-game victory.

In game two after Manhattanville took a 2-0 first-inning lead, the Monarchs responded with five in the bottom of the frame.

Zaccone walked, Joe Zito singled, and Bartle was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Anthony Lizzi followed up with another walk to score King's first run. Two batters later Dan Tully and Tim Gibbons delivered consecutive run scoring singles to put the Monarchs on top 3-2. Steve Brynock then came through with a two-run single to stretch the King's advantage to 5-2.

King's added two more in the second when Zaccone walked, stole second, and later scored on a RBI double by Lizzi. Two batters later Civello delivered a RBI single to push the score to 7-2. 

After the Valiants scored two runs in the third to cut the score to 7-4, the Monarchs countered with three more in the fourth.

Zito led off with a double and Lizzi drilled a two-run shot over the left field wall to give the Monarchs a 10-4 lead.

The Valiants added one run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to cut the gap to 10-7 entering their final at-bats in the top-of-the-seventh.

Lattarulo led off the seventh with a solo home run to bring Manhattanville within 10-8. Nick Euvino then singled. After Monarch relief pitcher Andrew 
Fisher struck out Robbie Lynch, Trashansky singled, moving Euvino to third. After pinch runner Chris Conklin stole second to give the Valiants runners at second and third with one out Jordanis Nunez came through with a two-run single to tie the game at 10-10.

After Tully entered the game to replace Fisher, Nunez stole second to move into position to score the go-ahead run. Nunez then stole third-base but a throwing error on the attempt was errant, allowing the Manhattanville shortstop to touch home for an 11-10 Valiants' lead. After an infield out, Joe Anselmi doubled to right center and Bobby Guerra followed with a RBI double with two-out to push the Manhattanville lead  to 12-10 heading into the bottom-of-the-seventh.

In the Monarchs final at-bat. Civello singled up the middle and pinch runner Kris Carr moved to second on a base hit by Tully. Tom Gibbons then hit into a fielder's choice forcing out Tully at second while Carr moved to third. After Gibbons stole second with two out, pinch hitter Shawn Heck grounded out to end the game.

Lizzi went 2-for-3 with four RBI, including a  home run and double. Zito was 2-for-4 with two runs, a RBI, and a double. Civello was 2-for-4 while Tully finished 2-for-4 with one RBI. Brynock finished 1-for-3 with two RBI. 

Fisher took the pitching loss in relief, allowing six earned runs on six hits in one and one-third innings. Cody Patton started for King's, allowing five runs, four earned, with five strikeouts in five innings.

For Manhattanville, Nunez was 3-for-5 with three runs, including a double and home run. Guerra and Brady added two hits and three RBI apiece.Joe Palmieri picked up the pitching victory in relief, going the final three innings without allowing a run.
