KING'S BASEBALL TEAM SWEPT BY DESALES

CENTER VALLEY -- The King's College baseball team dropped a Freedom Conference doubleheader to host DeSales University Saturday in Center Valley. The Monarchs fell by scores of 12-6 and 5-2.

With the losses, King's fell to 1-8 overall and 0-5 in Freedom Conference games. DeSales, meanwhile, improved to 4-7 and 3-0 in league competition.

In the opener, King's held a 6-2 lead but DeSales scored six runs in the bottom of the second to build an 8-2 advantage.  The Bulldogs added one in the fifth and three more in the sixth to set the final score.

Steve Brynock had the big blow for King's, slamming a grand slam home run in the second inning. But the Monarchs would register only four total hits in the game as Tim Zaccone, Greg Bartle, and Dan Tully contributed with singles. Bartle and Joe Zito also chipped in with one RBI apiece.

Ryan Gimbi took the pitching loss for King's, allowing eight runs, five earned, on six hits with three strikeouts in six innings.

In the nightcap the Monarchs trailed 1-0 after three innings but took a 2-1 lead in the fourth when Zito singled, Bartle walked, and Ryan Civello delivered a two-run single.

But DeSales countered with three runs in the bottom of the frame, two which scored unearned following a Monarch error.

King's had just three hits in the game as Tom Gibbons joined Civello and Zito in the hit column.   Cody Patton pitched a solid game for King's, allowing six hits and five runs, two which were earned, on six hits and struck out six batters.

The Monarchs return to the field Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. home doubleheader against the City College of New York at Lipo Field in the Betzler Athletic Complex
