King's Baseball Tops Baptist Bible in Non-Conference Showdown

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. -- The King's College baseball team earned an 11-1 victory over Baptist Bible College Thursday afternoon at King's Lipo Field.

The Monarchs jumped out to an early lead scoring five runs in the first inning taking advantage of a pair of hits and four walks to take a 5-0 edge after one frame.

King's tacked on two runs in the fourth innning. Tom Gibbons, Tim Zaccone and Joe Zito walked to load the bases. Greg Bartle forced across a run with a walk of his own. Anthony Lizzi hit a deep fly to center for a sacrifice plating Zaccone to put King's up 7-0.

Baptist Bible got on the board in the fifth. Joe Chupick hit an infield single and advanced to third on a single by Dan Reed. Joe Chupick scored on a throw down to second on a Reed stolen base.

In the bottom of the frame the Monarchs answered with a pair of runs on hits by Gibbons and Stephen Brynok. King's tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to set the final.

Gibbons tallied three hits on two runs and two RBIs. Zaccone added a 1-for-2 day with two runs scored and two RBIs. Reed led the Defenders with two hits.

Mike Gagen picked up the win on the mound for King's while Kory Knupp took the loss for Baptist Bible.

The Monarchs improved to 4-10 overall while Baptist Bible fell to 2-10. King's is back in action on Friday when they travel to Eastern for a 3:30 start.
