King's Baseball Wraps Up 2014 Season with Pair of Losses to FDU

KING'S BASEBALL SWEPT BY FDU IN SEASON FINALE

MADISON, NJ -- the King's College baseball team saw its rebuilding season come to an end with a doubleheader loss to FDU-Florham Saturday in Madison, NJ. FDU won the first game 6-1, then took the nightcap by a 2-1 margin. 

In the opener, the Monarchs managed three hits, a double by Stephen Brynock and singles from Greg Bartle and Tom GibbonsShawn Heck took the pitching loss, allowing three earned runs in five and one-third innings of work.

In the nightcap, the teams were tied 1-1 after four innings. King's tied the score in the top of the fourth inning when Bartle doubled and scored on a single by Brynock.

The Devils, however, pushed cross that proved to be the winning run in the sixth inning.

Bartle led King's with a 2-for-4 showing while Anthony Re, Joe Zito, Tim Zaccone, and Brynock added one hit each.

Mike Kreiger took the pitching loss for King's, allowing one run in two and two-thirds innings. Justin Binkowski started for the Monarchs and allowed one run on four hits in three complete innings. Mike Gagen pitched the final third of an inning

The Monarchs, who hraduated 15 seniors a year and were forced to replace eight-of-nine starting position players, wrapped up the season with a 8-19 overall record and a 5-16 Freedom Conference mark. FDU improved to 20-12 and 15-6.
