KING'S MEN'S SOCCER EDGES NEUMANN 2-1 IN SEASON OPENER
WILKES-BARRE -- Niall Croke scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 2:25 left as the reigning Freedom Conference champion King's College men's soccer team posted a 2-1 victory over visiting Neumann University Friday night at McCarthy Stadium.
King's led 1-0 until Neumann tied the core with 17:07 left in regulation on a goal by Tben Donnie.Â
With the game appeared headed to overtime, Croke knocked in a header into the right side of the night.
King's took a 1-0 lead when Brian Alifano tapped in a deep crossing pass just inside the left post with 23:10 left in the first half as the Monarchs took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Neumann held a 8-7 advantage in total shots while the Monarchs owned a 5-4 lead in corner kicks.
King's goalie Tyler Wilson made one save for the Monarchs.
King's will host Penn State Altoona Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
