KING'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM SWEEPS  ST. JOSEPH'S AT ST. JOHNS LOU CARNESECCA COURT

NEW YORK, NY -- The King's women's volleyball team took advantage of a rare opportunity of playing in a Big East Conference facility as the Lady Monarchs posted a 3-0 victory over St. Joseph's University of Brooklyn in a match played at Lou Carnesecca Arena on the campus of St. John's University.

Carnesecca is the well-know former head coach at St. John's who enjoyed a highly successful career, winning 526 games over 24 seasons.

Inspired by the surroundings and the adornment of Red Storm banners and logos throughout the arena, King's won by scores of 25-11, 25-8, 25-19 to improve to 6-2 on the year.

Emily Heimbecker posted five kills, five digs, and one assist in the match while Alexis Swagler also added five kills with two solo blocks. Alyssa Powell contributed four kills and five digs while Mary Loughran tallied 24 assists, six digs, and three kills.

Kelsie Kramer registered three  kills; Sarah Busse contributed seven assists, five digs, and three kills, while Katelyn Shifflet checked in with three kills, three aces, and two solo blocks. Brenna Smudde recorded six digs while Aubrey Gryskiewicz and Mackenzie Martin had three digs each. Jessica Carr was credited with three kills while Emma Hanrahan chipped in with two digs.

King's returns to action Tuesday when the Lady Monarchs travel to face defending Freedom Conference champion Eastern University at 7 p.m. in St. David.
